These are the first images I made in New York when I moved there to study photography.
For me, New York was alive in its streets and sidewalks, with all its movement, it's madness, its magic, its magnetism. I was looking for the effervescent moment, the force of the uncontrolled. To take a good photo it was necessary to be very attentive to the flow of life. I am New York is also the title of a poem by Jayne Cortez, whose combination of words form surreal images of a city that is dying and being reborn all the time.
New York was the perfect place to photograph, with its play of mirrors and infinite contradictions. I furiously studied the classic New York photographers such as Garry Winograd, William Klein, Helen Levitt and Bruce Davidson, among others; photographers who taught me the power and beauty of street photography.
